“The status quo will get you nowhere. Don’t be afraid to do things differently than everybody else.”
Tina O’Connor, Author of Be That Girl
I have definitely been making my own footprints in the sand. I realized that travelling other people’s roads was making me feel spiritually and physically fatigued. One day I woke up and decided that I was going to make my own road and say YES! to life. The road along the way has sometimes been unpaved and bumpy, but at least it has been all MINE.
Sometimes it has felt scary and there have been so many times where I didn’t know where to begin, but I have tried not to let the fear old me back. Saying YES! to making happiness my permanent default setting has been challenging, exciting, exhausting, exhilarating, bumpy, fulfilling and I’ve made lots of “mistakes”, but I love every single part of it because it has brought me to this exact moment where my heart is full and I love my life – imperfections and all. It has all made me who I am today, in this moment.
It’s not just about travelling the road less travelled, or creating your own footprints. It’s about being happy without being perfect. It’s about choices – saying yes, or saying no depending on feels good to you.
In life, opportunities will be thrown at you left and right.
“Do I take this road? Yes.
Do I take that road? No.
Do I travel my own road? That sounds exciting, let’s see where it leads.”
The choice is always yours. It’s about making the decision, yes or no, left or right, up or down, forward (never backwards), and taking action to do what you want to do. Its about not saying 5 years from now…
“I thought about moving to there, and I really wanted to, but…”
“I thought about going back to school, and I really wanted to, but…”
“I thought about changing jobs, and I really wanted to, but…”
“I thought about taking a program to lose weight, and I really wanted to, but…”
“I thought about taking some time for fun, but…”
“I thought about spending more time with my friends and family, but…”
I don’t want you to be afraid of doing the things that are going to bring you happiness and absolute soul quenching fulfillment. The road might be unpaved, and yes, it might seem easier to walk in someone else’s footsteps than create your own, but where’s the fun in that?
Tina O’Connor, author of Be That Girl says that most people are afraid of doing the thing that can get them the biggest results in their lives. She says that when you go beyond your fear and doubt, you are able to achieve the things your heart truly desires. I couldn’t agree more.
If you have the opportunity to do something that will really light up your soul. Something that you feel in your gut you truly want, take the opportunity, fear included, and just say YES!
And remember, all the bumps, twists, turns, and missteps are part of the package, but when you say YES! to life, it will always bring you to the exact moment where your heart is full and you love your life – perfectly imperfect.
Your challenge is to say YES! to something today.
What is something you really want to say yes to? Are you ready to say yesand just do it?
Today, sit and think about what you truly want. What is one thing you can do that you have been putting off because you are afraid or you feel like you don’t have enough time for it? Take the first step. Make the first call. Just say YES!
