Explosion, Expansion, Excitement

Before I moved to Saskatoon (pre-Contagiously Positive girl), I was so focused on setting business and life goals that would get me more. More stuff, more clothes, more house, more car, more money, more material objects – more things, not more emotions. Each goal had a list of just a lot of MORE that held no emotional attachment to me.

Now that I’m back in Ontario in my “old” life, I was daydreaming this morning about my greatest lesson on that amazing 5-year journey while living in Saskatoon. I don’t want to HAVE more, I want to BE more. I want more experiences. My goal setting is going to completely change. I’m going to start focusing on setting goals that are infused with the emotional experience I want to have when I set it and once I achieve it. My new goal setting principle must include the 3 E’s.

The 3 E’s To Setting a Goal

#1: Explosion. It must fill my heart and soul so much that it feels like I will explode with love and gratitude.

#2: Expansion. It must expand my life. Will it make me grow? Will it fill me with gratitude? Will it enhance my life? If the answer to those questions is no, why the heck do I even want it? I don’t have time to waste on lifeless goals. Neither do you.

#3: Excitement! Do you ever feel like somewhere along the way you lost your excitement to life and the things around you? I want to bring out my inner child. She so deserves to play. I want to feel excited, even with, especially with, the tiny little moments in life. Bigger isn’t always better and more isn’t always what we need. Your goal doesn’t need to be big, it needs to excite you.

Listen, I’m not saying that I don’t want a beautiful home, or nice clothes or a pretty car. I enjoy all of those things. I’m grateful for those things. But that is the key. Those things have the 3 E’s infused into them. I can feel the heart expanding gratitude for it. I don’t need more, or bigger, or better to make me happy, I’m already happy. Anything else will just be a bonus. Before I moved to Saskatoon, I had the bigger house. Did it make me happier? No. The physical home we lived in during our amazing time in toon-town didn’t make us happy, it was what we did in that home. It was the 4th and most essential E. EXPERIENCES. We will filled it with memories by opening it up to our friends and family. We connected with people and grew relationships and had the most heart expanding experiences that filled my soul. We could have lived in that same home and been miserable had we not filled it with experiences that made us excited, that expanded our life, and exploded our hearts. A few months ago, when we had to move, the new goal around the house that I wanted included that. The goal wasn’t just to find a new home to live in, the goal was to find a new home that would fill our lives, and those around us, with the E’s – Explosion, Expansion, Excitement, and Experiences.

Set Your New Goals

Next time you set a new goal, ask yourself these questions?

  • Will it expand my life?

  • Will achieving this give me more heart loving explosions?

  • Will it excite me? Does it excite me?

  • Will it fill my mental memory jar with more soul fulfilling experiences?

If the answer is no to all of those questions, maybe it is time for a new goal. Go deeper within as to why you want it and ask yourself, what do I need to experience the E’s? You will be surprised that your answer isn’t usually more stuff (remember, those are just bonuses) it is more experiences and more positive emotion behind the stuff and behind the experiences.

Sending you oodles of positivity, happiness and joy,
